University of Brighton
We sincerely hope you will attend our meetings which take place every Wednesday at 18:00 in 201 Cockcroft on the Moulsecoomb Campus.
The University of Brighton Debating Society is an award winning, active, and welcoming community of individuals committed to discussion and dialogue.
We meet weekly for a series of debates, some casual, some serious, and over the past few years have been steadily growing our membership numbers and the variety of socials we host (for those interested). Members might even learn something, and failing that, might just make a friend or two!
Our society is primarily dedicated to freedom of speech, open debate and critical thinking. We welcome anyone and everyone to take part, regardless of experience level, degree course or political stance. You’ll find that our committee and membership is very diverse in background and opinions but we all have a shared commitment to the society and are willing to try and accommodate anyone who wants to get involved. We debate a range of topics such as morality, politics, philosophy, art, human rights, ideology and current affairs. As a rule of thumb, if it can be debated, we'll debate it!
The Society has no official political stance and we have members from all over the political spectrum. You will find many people you will agree with and many you may disagree with. Remaining respectful and abiding by the rules of debate are all we ask.
